About Our District
Established in 1923, the Franklin Square Water District (FSWD) has proudly provided safe, reliable drinking water to the Franklin Square community for more than a century. Serving a compact yet densely populated area, the District remains committed to responsible stewardship, infrastructure investment, and responsive service.
District Overview
The Franklin Square Water District serves a 2-square-mile service territory, supplying water to approximately 20,000 residents through more than 5,200 customer accounts. Our distribution system includes 42 miles of water mains and 404 fire hydrants, supporting both everyday needs and fire protection throughout the community.
Water is supplied through five active wells and stored in two elevated storage tanks, providing a total storage capacity of 1,000,000 gallons. The District has a daily pumping capacity of 9.79 million gallons, ensuring adequate supply during peak demand and emergencies.
Operations & Staff
FSWD operates with a dedicated team of 10 employees, including a five-person labor force, a labor foreman, a superintendent, an assistant superintendent and two clerical staff members.

Governance
The District is governed by a Board of Commissioners, elected by residents of the District and responsible for setting policy, overseeing operations, and safeguarding the public interest.

The District’s current tax rate is:
- Class I: $43.910 per $100 of assessed value

District Board Meetings
Board meetings are normally held on Tuesdays at 5pm at the FSWD office. On the rare occasions where there is a 5th Tuesday of the month, there is no meeting.
Voting Eligibility
To be eligible to vote for Water Commissioners, you must be:
- A registered voter residing in the Franklin Square Water District
- A resident of the Franklin Square Water District for at least 30 days prior to the election date
